What can I do in my school or neighborhood?
PARENTS/GUARDIANS
- Encourage your kids to develop and sustain active, healthy lifestyles.
- Understand and support the Safe Routes to School Program in your School.
- Make the Safe Routes to School Program the subject of a PTA, church, neighborhood watch or civic meeting.
- Participate in Walk to School Day Events.
- Fill out the surveys and submit to the Safe Routes to School Task Force.
- Join the Mansfield Safe Routes to School Task Force.
- Be a good motorist and remember, people are walking or biking when you are driving.
- Don’t be in such a hurry.
- Make your neighborhood safer for all who walk/bike in it.
- Make the Pledge—to make a difference.
KIDS
- Get excited about being active and making your neighborhood a great place to move around.
- Get out of cars and onto your feet and bikes!
- Participate in Walk/Bike to School Day events.
- Be a representative on the Safe Routes to School Task Force.
- Learn and practice pedestrian and bicycle safety.
- Report concerns to your principal, teachers, parents, and/or the Safe Routes to School Task Force.
TEACHERS/PRINCIPALS
- Your school becomes a community partner in the effort to make our neighborhoods more livable and our youth safer and healthier.
- By getting involved, you can enable and encourage young people to develop a more healthy lifestyle.
OTHER INTERESTED INDIVIDUALS
- Understand and support the Safe Routes to School program.
- Share your traffic safety concerns.
- Bring the community’s attention to issue surrounding a safe journey to school.
- Support education initiatives within the school.
- Fill out the surveys and submit to the Safe Routes to School Task Force.
- Join the Safe Routes to School Task Force and be a part of making our community more safer all year long.
